How to Make Friends as an introvert - 10 Tips That Work!

As an introvert, making friends can be a challenge. You may feel shy or uncomfortable in social situations, and you may find it hard to start conversations.


But there are plenty of ways to make friends as an introvert. Here are 10 tips that will help you get started:


1. Join a club or activity group.

Joining a club or activity group is a great way to meet people with similar interests. It can be anything from a book club to a sports team to a cooking class. Do a spidergram of all the things you like doing, then search out clubs, on and offline to maximise your experience.



2. Volunteer.

Volunteering is a great way to meet new people and make friends. You can volunteer for a cause that you care about, and you’ll instantly have something in common with the other volunteers. This is the key - something in common - it gives you a starting point of things to talk about so you are never at a loss.


3. Go to events.


There are all sorts of events that you can attend, from art gallery openings to concerts to street festivals. Check out your local paper or website for a list of upcoming events. Strike up a conversation with someone who is looking at the same thing as you.


4. Get a part-time job.


A part-time job is a great way to meet new people. You’ll be working with them, so you’ll already have something in common. And if you’re introverted, having a job will give you something to talk about with other people.


5. Take a class.


Classes are a great way to meet people with similar interests. It can be anything from a dance class to a cooking class to a language class.


6. Go out for coffee or drinks.


Invite a friend or acquaintance out for coffee or drinks. This is a low-pressure way to catch up with someone and get to know them better. and you can do this with people you have met, it's a low-pressure, low-time commitment way of getting to know someone better.

There are all sorts of online communities that you can join, from forums to social media groups. This is a great way to meet people with similar interests without having to leave your home.


8. Attend a meetup.


Meetups are events that are organized by people with similar interests. They’re a great way to meet new people in a relaxed and informal setting. You can find these on Facebook groups and 'NextDoor'


9. Travel.

Travelling is a great way to meet new people. You can meet people from all over the world, and you’ll have plenty of stories to share with each other. There are holidays made for people who are travelling alone to give plenty of opportunities to meet other people.


10. Get a pet.

Pets are great icebreakers. If you have a dog, for instance, you’ll instantly have something in common with other dog owners. And people will be more likely to approach you if you have a cute animal with you.
